The process for organic certification focuses on how the soil, animals, and organic products are managed, rather than specific criteria for the final product. During inspections, the focus is on verifying the operator’s organic system, including things like keeping track of inventory and crop rotation plans. While pesticide residue testing is commonly used to verify organic requirements, there are other testing methods available, such as isotope testing, fingerprint methods, and testing the quality and composition of the soil and products. These alternative methods could be used by operators and control bodies to ensure the integrity of their supply chain.
