Let’s Discuss Organic Session 3 – The Sustainable Use of Pesticides Regulation: a needed reform under pressure

Registration is closed for this event
This Let’s Discuss Organic session will have a twofold aim: (1) discuss the content of the SUR proposal and present your our positions and work on the file; (2) Give you an overview of the political state of play of the reform, including the process and positions of the three EU institutions: the European Commission, the European Parliament and Member States).

The European Commission published the SUR proposal on 22 June 2022. The organic movement supports the reform – as Europe needs it to reach the pesticide use and risk targets set in the Farm to Fork Strategy. A strong reform of the current Sustainable Use of Pesticides Directive (SUD) will indeed protect our farmers and farm workers from health issues and our environment and biodiversity from pollution, all triggered by synthetic pesticides.

Nonetheless, we believe the current proposal should improve on several aspects (indicators chosen, definition of plants protection products (PPPs), ban of all PPPs on sensitive areas).

This Let’s Discuss Organic session will have a twofold aim:

  • Give you an overview of the political state of play of the reform, including the process and positions of the three EU institutions: the European Commission, the European Parliament and  Member States).
