Humus formation by legumes - Demonstration of methods to improve humus formation with clover grass and grain legumes on dry and sandy soils
|
Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, located in the very north of Germany, is characterised by sandy soils and precipitation values of below 550 mm. These pedo-climatic conditions present a challenge to organic farmers, as organic agriculture abstains from the use of synthetic fertilisers. Different agronomic practices to build up a fertile humus layer have been without success. The objective of the project is to develop methods that help to improve humus formation. Different mixtures of clover grass and grain legumes, incorporated in different crop rotations, are examined for their suitability for organic management conditions and cultivation on dry and sandy soils. |
